Day 1: Uyuni Salt Flat + Sunset + Stargazing

Our adventure begins in Uyuni City with a visit to the Train Cemetery, a historic site where abandoned locomotives preserve the legacy of Bolivia's railway history. We then continue to the Colchani Community, where you'll learn about the traditional salt extraction and processing methods that have been passed down through generations.

As we enter the vast Uyuni Salt Flats, we will visit the Ojos del Salar, natural saltwater springs that emerge from beneath the salt crust. We will then continue to the Dakar Monument, Flags Square (Plaza de Banderas), and the Playa Blanca Salt Hotel, the first hotel built entirely from salt blocks within the Uyuni Salt Flats.

At midday, we will enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the endless white landscape of the salt flats. After lunch, we'll have a fun perspective photography session, taking advantage of the unique scenery to create incredible optical illusion photos. Later, we will visit Incahuasi Island during the dry season, or the Salt Monuments during the rainy season, depending on the conditions of the salt flats.

In the late afternoon, witness a breathtaking sunset as the salt flats turn into a giant natural mirror. After sunset, stay to enjoy stargazing and admire the Milky Way under one of the clearest skies on Earth. During the rainy season, the reflections create the magical sensation of walking among the stars. The tour ends around 8:30 PM, in Uyuni City.

Meals Included: Picnic Lunch | Dinner
Accommodation: Hotel Kachi or similar in Uyuni City

Day 2: Lagoons & Landscapes

After breakfast, we will depart early from the community of Colcha K to continue our adventure across the Bolivian Altiplano. Our first stop will be Hedionda Lagoon, one of the most beautiful high-altitude lagoons, where we will have the opportunity to observe flamingos and other Andean wildlife in their natural habitat.

We will then continue across the impressive Siloli Desert, famous for its volcanic landscapes and vast desert scenery. Along the way, we will have the chance to spot Andean vizcachas before visiting the iconic Stone Tree, a unique rock formation sculpted by thousands of years of wind erosion.

Next, we will enter the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, where we will visit the spectacular Red Lagoon (Laguna Colorada), renowned for the intense red color of its waters and for being home to thousands of Andean flamingos. In this incredible setting, we will enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by some of the most breathtaking landscapes in southwestern Bolivia.

In the afternoon, we will begin our journey back to Uyuni, making a stop in the historic village of San Cristóbal, known for its colonial church and cultural significance in the region. Finally, we will arrive in Uyuni City at approximately 6:30 p.m., bringing to an end an unforgettable day filled with lagoons, deserts, wildlife, and the extraordinary landscapes of the Bolivian Altiplano.

Meals Included: Breakfast | Picnic Lunch

Itinerary Notes

Mirror Effect: The mirror effect is most likely to occur during the rainy season, from January to June, when a thin layer of water covers the salt flats. During the dry season (July to December), it is less likely to be seen, as it depends on the amount of rainfall each year. The mirror effect cannot be guaranteed.

Stargazing: Moon phases affect stargazing conditions. During full moon nights and the days around them, moonlight reduces the visibility of stars, especially the Milky Way. For the best experience, we recommend tours during new moon or nights with minimal moonlight. View Recommended Dates

Incahuasi Island Access: During the rainy season (December to March), access to Incahuasi Island may be restricted due to high water levels. In this case, we will visit the Salt Monuments instead, while enjoying the spectacular mirror effect, where the salt flats perfectly reflect the sky, creating an unforgettable setting for photography.

Weather Conditions: During the rainy season, weather conditions in the Uyuni Salt Flats can change quickly. The tour may start with rain and then clear up, or rain may occur during the experience. Cloudy skies can reduce star visibility, so stargazing conditions cannot always be guaranteed.

Our guide did a great job of giving my family and I a special time out on the Uyuni salt flats. Unfortunately I left my expensive tripod in the vehicle and didn’t realize this until early the next morning as I was packing to catch a flight. Efrain was kind enough to drop it off at the Hotel that I was staying at. I’m very happy with the experience and the responsiveness of the staff. It was definitely worth the money.
